Mestre also has its saint: St Michael Archangel. He is celebrated on 29 September. It is a very old popular tradition, traces of which can be found as far back as 1328, when the feast day for the saint was regulated by the authorities of Treviso, on which Mestre depended at the time. In this historical document, a great horse fair is mentioned. Over the centuries, fireworks and dances were added, and in 1958 there are even records of a regatta. Mestre has also always been a city of water.

While waiting for the solemn mass at the cathedral in Piazza Ferretto, the highlight of the celebrations is in Via Torino, not far from our Camper Park. Where the fruit and vegetable market once stood, you will find ‘Mes3land’, the funfair. Until 29 September, it will open its doors at 3.30 p.m. (and on Sundays at 10.30 a.m.) and close them at 1 a.m. In this large area of 60,000 square metres, there are sixty attractions, as well as a stage for live concerts, an area called ‘retrogames’ with video games of the past, a space for trying your hand at softair, and a village with food and markets. The symbol of the fun fair is, of course, a thirty-metre Ferris wheel.

Admission is free. There is a bike and motorbike park, and a free circular shuttle that runs every twenty minutes.
