We suggest you take your bicycle and reach Forte Bazzera.

The route will give you a taste of the lagoon. From the Porta Rossa of the San Giuliano Park take the nature and bicycle path until you reach an iron bridge separating the lagoon from the Osellino canal. Cross the bridge with your bicycles by hand and continue along the dirt path that leads to Passo Campalto, skirting. Towards the end, you will discover a unique and typical lagoon environment: the sandbanks.
The salt marshes are land that has emerged due to the effect of the tides. It is an ideal habitat for many species of birds and a rare ecosystem of plants such as Salicornia and Limonium. From the small canal port of Passo Campalto, you can admire the skyline of Venice, from where the Campanile di San Marco soars.
On this walk among the Campalto sandbanks, you can stop for a break, go birdwatching and discover a world of cormorants, swans, herons, egrets, sacred ibises and sometimes flamingos, when the low tide allows them to find food. On the horizon, the islands of Torcello, Burano and Mazzorbo appear.

At that point you can continue along the embankment bordering the canal, following the signs that say ‘cycle path to Forte Bazzera’. You will run through the countryside, find two water pumps and finally the fort surrounded by the waters of a small rivulet of water, the Scolo Bazzera. A small wooden bridge will let you in. It dates back to 1910: it was a powder magazine, that is, a powder and ammunition depot serving the other military forts. From there you can reach Punta Bazzera, almost next to the airport and in an oasis of nature.
